It pisses me off…
I’ve been very quiet recently with urbex, I’ve got a few visits to post but currently can’t be arsed. Let me tell you why…
Urbex has gone to absolute shit. All I see now are posts of the same place from everyone and his dog, like why must everyone all run to the latest find like little rats scurrying after the Pied Piper? Is the UK scene really that dry? I’ve thousands of pins, most are probably an utter pile of crap but you never know until you go and with the right ideas you can make even the most boring place look interesting through photography.
I’m not being a hypocrite, I’ve been to hotspots and I’ll probably end up at some of them but this need for everyone to immediately turn up and take the same photos and saturate social media with them is mind boggling. Do it at your own pace instead of all rushing and publicising at the same time and just maybe places won’t get vandalised or sealed within a matter of days.
And if the Socials aren’t full of a photos of old Nora’s living room in a house you’ve given the most ridiculous name, then they’re full of people being absolute lemons for other reasons…
Take a look at reels, TikTok’s etc., “WE FOUND”. But 9 times out of 10 you found jack shit because someone else got there first. There is no need to claim ownership, it’s dickhead behaviour. And take your added MURDER SCENE and shove that up your arse at the same time. And for the love of all things holy just stop claiming you’re a CONTENT CREATOR because you’re not. You are just a person wandering around taking a film on your camera or phone and uploading it with utter bollocks for added effect.
And while I’m on a roll let’s mention the place where the old guys hair is still on the carpet from where he lay decomposing. Yeah, it’s probably fascinating and if I went yes I’d take a photo but I wouldn’t upload it to social media. That’s all that remains of someone’s dad/brother/uncle and you’re parading it around for all to see just for likes. Where is the respect? It’s disgusting.
And now we seem to have a trend of people going to houses and bumping into someone living there and filming them and loading it. What about their privacy? That’s their home you’ve just entered and you’re putting them on your pages. I know we film for our safety incase something happens but seriously, if nothing happened then be respectful and don’t put that poor person that you’ve probably scared half to death on your socials.
It all boils down to clout chasing, anything for likes and views. How many of you actually do urbex for the love of the hobby coz from where I’m sitting it looks like a lot just do it for nothing more than a stab at fame. And if you actually live and breathe urbex and have to go out every day otherwise you can’t cope with life have a fucking word with yourself, likewise if you have to let the world know on a daily basis who your best exploring buddy is or partake in those ridiculous tag ten people stories on Instagram on a weekly basis.
The community is ruined, ruined by all of the above. Ruined by drama and bitching. Ruined by the few who are in it for the clout. Ruined by those who aren’t old school. Bring back the old school days.
