Paranoid Bob’s Bunker
A very recent explore from the weekend just gone. Paranoid Bob isn’t really called Bob, although he may well have been paranoid. He is an author and during the Cold War era he had shipping containers dug into the grounds of his house and fitted it out as a nuclear bunker.
I’ve been here before a few years ago when you could literally walk in and down to the bunker. There was lots of equipment down there like radiation meters, a television and bullets. Now it’s been robbed and trashed. Getting in is no longer simple, someone placed a load of old trees over the entrance to discourage people going there and the entry sealed but someone has managed to make a way in, you have to slide through a hole that’s been dug that brings you on to the stairs where a delightful bunch of cave spiders are hanging out on the ceiling. Thankfully cave spiders tend to ignore people.
Bob thought of absolutely everything down there, there’s a blast door, decontamination room, kitchen, male and female bathrooms even with a sanitary bin. There’s loads of canned food nicely covered in fruit flies. There used to be a plate of mouldy food that was strangely gone. Has someone actually taken that? 🤢 Got a bit peckish? 🤮
There are sleeping areas with bunk beds and bedding, a shitload of disinfectant in barrels, medicines, sanitary products, even packs of disposable underwear. I didn’t see the abundance of toilet rolls I remember being there, maybe the person who ate the food needed it 😂
When you think how very real the threat of nuclear war was back then Bob must have been absolutely bricking it to go to all this effort. Thank god it never had to be used.
We spent a while down here getting our photos and videos and I ended the explore by twatting my head on a steel beam. FFS.
The main house has now been sealed but last time I went it had been badly vandalised. The owners tried so hard to stop people getting in but eventually the disrespectful yobs gained entry and smashed everything up. The swimming pool in a separate building used to have a mural by Voyder and to try and discourage people going there the owners had that painted over. There’s another mural there now and tadpoles swimming in the pool.
